Who Should Join?
The Sickle Cell Club is a non governmental, non-religious, non-profit making organization endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization. It is a foundation member of the Nigerian Association of Non-Governmental Organizations on Health (NANGOH)
The Club was formed with the primary aims of helping the numerous members of our society who have sickle cell disorder, through proper medical and social care, live as normal lives as possible and of promoting the reduction, by human methods, in the incidence of the disorder in the country.
- You don't have to be a sickler (SS) to join the Club
- You don't have to be a carrier (AS) to become a member
Membership of the Sickle Cell Club is open to all interested persons and corporate bodies who are interested in the work of the Club.
Activities of the Sickle Cell Club:
Sickle Cell Week – Activities that take place during the week include:
- Press Briefing
- Charity Walk
- Medical and welfare support
- Seminar for Secondary Schools and higher institutions.
- End of year programme – Takes place every December
- Annual General Meeting – Takes place every December
- Quarterly joint meeting/public lecture
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CLUBS
- To issue identity cards to patients and members affected so that they can be treated at once whenever admitted to any hospital without delay.
- To arrange social activities where members can meet and discuss problems related to the disorders and their possible solutions
- To arrange social activities for purpose of fund raising
- To expose affetcd members who require assistance with employment to career guidance and training.
