The unpredictable nature of Sickle Cell Disorder frequently presents families with sudden, catastrophic financial emergencies that extend far beyond routine clinical visits. The Welfare Support Fund is an essential safety net designed by the foundation to provide rapid financial relief to indigent patients experiencing severe hardship. In 2026, the fund's beneficiary target is to provide support to 10,000 individuals living with SCD. Resources from this fund are deployed to subsidise expensive hospital bills, cover sudden emergency medical procedures, and finance complex orthopedic interventions such as total hip replacement surgeries, which are commonly required due to avascular necrosis.
Additionally, recognising that severe medical debt can destabilise a family's educational path, the fund provides critical school fees support to keep young patients in school. To maintain this emergency relief fund throughout the year, the foundation has established a 2026 annual fundraising target of ₦600,000,000 ($428,000).
