What It Is
The Reference Haemoglobin Laboratory (RHL) at the Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria (SCFN) is a state-of-the-art diagnostic facility dedicated to accurate and timely laboratory services, particularly for haemoglobin disorders. Fully launched in 2009, it serves as a centre of excellence for the diagnosis and monitoring of normal and abnormal haemoglobins, supporting individuals living with sickle cell disorder and related conditions. Using advanced techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and alkaline haemoglobin electrophoresis, the laboratory accurately identifies and quantifies haemoglobin variants, including Sickle Cell Disorder and Beta-thalassaemia.
