"It's always been me and my mum, for as long as I can remember. As a single mother; everything I need comes from her. Food, school, and most especially, my treatment whenever I fall into crisis. And that happens often.
Sickle cell is not just something that affects me.
I'm in pain, but she has to watch me be in pain.
Lots of hospital visits. Daily Medications. Consistent late nights.
It has been a huge load on her. But things have changed since meeting SCFN. Through the support of the Sickle Cell Foundation, I can see that things aren't as heavy for her anymore. The help they provide makes it easier for her to take care of me, to afford what I need, and for both of us to be able to breathe easier.
For the first time ever, it doesn't feel like she's carrying everything alone."
You may not see it from the outside, but small support changes everything in homes like his.
It means fewer worries.
It means one less burden.
It means hope.
"I don’t have many words. But I am grateful. And I know my mum is too. Only God can reward the people who have helped us."
