"As a mother, I have just one real job. Take care of my child. When that child has sickle cell, it becomes a war game. When my daughter was younger, I was always saying don’t do this, don’t do that."

It was fear. Simple and short. Obviously, borne out of love, but still fear.

When your child has sickle cell, everything feels like a risk. Running, playing, even small things like brushing her teeth kept me on my toes. In the beginning, I didn’t really understand the condition. I was just trying to protect her the best way I knew how. But I was scared all the time.

Then I found the foundation. They started teaching me. What actually matters. What doesn’t. How to take care of her properly. That knowledge changed everything.

I stopped seeing her as fragile. I started seeing her as a child who can grow.

Now? She’s doing well in school. She’s active. She tries things. And me, I don’t just stop her anymore. I encourage her.

Because I’ve learned that this life… it’s not about holding them back.
It’s about helping them live fully.
