What does it feel like to live in constant pain?

What does it feel like to have an injury that never really goes away? Every single day for weeks. For months. Something you have to clean, dress, manage… over and over again. That was Agata’s reality. Living with sickle cell already meant constant pain. But the leg ulcer made it impossible to hide.

“It hasn’t been easy,” she says. “But I thank God for the journey so far.”

Luckily in 2019, after being admitted at LUTH for osteomyelitis, she was informed about Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria. And then, everything changed.

Consistent, quality care entered the chat. Free dressing. Medications. People who were paying attention. In less than four months, the ulcer was finally healing. Since then, she’s stayed connected to the Foundation — still receiving care, still supported.

“They’ve been trying for us… the nurses, the management… everyone.”

For many people living with sickle cell, wounds like this don’t just disappear. They stretch on for years.

But with the right care, suffering doesn't have to be endless.

Agata’s did. Others are still waiting.
