The AOG Foundation is a non-profit organisation set up in memory of Olajumoke Azeezat Gbenro, who passed on on January 31 2021, at 50. She was passionate about charitable causes and supporting people with health needs, especially those with sickle cell disorder, a condition she battled in her short but impactful life.
The donation was in fulfilment of the Foundation’s mission to continue the legacy of Azeezat Olajumoke Gbenro, to improve healthcare provision for persons affected by sickle cell disorder (SCD).
While presenting the equipment to SCFN by one of the Trustees who doubles as the Coordinator of the AOG Foundation, Dr. Bolanle Idowu, stated that their collaboration with the SCFN and equipment donation would aid the Foundation more in caring for those affected by sickle cell disorder and in maintaining a world-class clinical standard.
The donation was received by the National Director/CEO of Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria, Dr. Annette Akinsete, who commended them for the tremendous gesture and further expressed her gratitude to the Azeezat Olajumoke Gbenro Foundation on behalf of the entire sickle cell community. She noted that the multimillion Naira invested on the equipment could have been used for other purposes, yet the foundation chose the sickle cell cause, which is often neglected by many organisations. She enjoined well-meaning Nigerians and organisations to support the sickle cell cause, noting that the needs are diverse.
We are most grateful to the AOG Foundation.
